We are seeking a talented UX Designer with a specialization in designing physical experiences to join our client's dynamic team!
The ideal candidate will have a keen understanding of how environmental factors such as lighting, spatial design, and ergonomic considerations impact human behavior, mood, and productivity. This role requires a blend of creativity, empathy, and analytical skills to craft immersive and impactful physical experiences that resonate with users and enhance their overall satisfaction.
This is a hybrid role in which candidates must be onsite in the client's NYC office 3 days per week.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of physical environments, ensuring they are conducive to users' needs, preferences, and objectives.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative research to understand user behaviors, preferences, and pain points related to physical experiences.
- Use findings to inform design decisions.
- Evaluate environmental factors such as lighting, acoustics, spatial layout, and ergonomics to optimize user comfort, mood, and productivity.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including architects, interior designers, engineers, and product managers to integrate physical and digital experiences seamlessly.
- Create prototypes and mockups to visualize and test physical experience designs.
- Iterate based on user feedback and usability testing results.
- Develop comprehensive design documentation including design briefs, user personas, journey maps, and design specifications.
- Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in physical experience design, human-computer interaction, and environmental psychology.
- Apply insights to improve designs and processes.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, adhering to deadlines and budget constraints while maintaining high-quality standards.
Qualifications:
- Experience level: Experienced
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Environmental Psychology, or a related field.
- 6+ years of experience in UX design with a focus on physical experiences, preferably in retail, hospitality, workplace, or public spaces.
- Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, etc., and familiarity with prototyping tools.
- Comprehensive understanding of human-centered design principles and methodologies.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to present ideas and concepts effectively to stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Portfolio showcasing previous work in physical experience design, including case studies, process documentation, and deliverables.
